WHAT IS SHINGLES? Shingles is a painful rash caused by reactivation of the same virus that causes chickenpox and 1 in 3 people will get shingles in their lifetime. • Shingles typically presents as a painful, itchy rash that develops on one side of the body and can last for two to four weeks. • As we age, the cells in our immune system lose the ability to mount a strong and effective response to infection, meaning that after the age of 50, a person’s risk for shingles increases.
Suitable for:
- adults 50 years and older
- receive two SHINGRIX injections with a gap of 2 to 6 months between doses
- SHINGRIX can be given if you have already been vaccinated with a live attenuated herpes zoster vaccine (Zostavax), at least 8 weeks.
SHINGRIX will not be given to you if:
- Pregnancy and breast-feeding
- You are allergic to Gelatin or Neomycin
- You are allergic to any component of the vaccine
- You with active untreated tuberculosis
