Pap Smears - Cervical Cancer Screening
Cervical cancer has been the 7th commonest cancer among females in Hong Kong and it is the 8th leading cause of female cancer deaths in Hong Kong. Cervical cancer is often asymptomatic at an early stage. Early detection by cervical cancer screening is a must routine checkup for females after 21 years old.
According to the American Cancer Society (ACS) and American College of O&G (ACOG) guidelines, Women should start routine Cytology Cervical Cancer Screening - Pap Smears from the age of 21 to 65 and for every 3 years if no prior abnormal cervical cancer screening test result.
Sampling is simple and only takes several minutes. You will lie on your back and the doctor will use a special instrument called a speculum to gently open the vagina so that the cervix can be seen. A special device will be used to brush cells from the neck of the womb.
